Introduction

Teachers are expected to make a conscious attempt to improve the vocabulary of the students. This could be done through some optimum lessons on the vocabulary, spelling, punctuation and grammar facet of studying English under the KS1 curriculum. This could aid the students in making sense of the complicated and diverse meanings of the words that they come across in the KS1 English vocabulary. This would also help them in understanding the relationship between the words and their usage in figurative language.

Key Stage 1 Curriculum: Vocabulary

KS1 is an integral part of the National Curriculum of England which has been introduced with the Education Reform Act, 1988. When the national curriculum was first introduced, legally, it was valid for both England and Wales. It was later that England alone was subjected to the British National Curriculum. In the year 2014, the National Curriculum was planned to cover a large age group of local authority maintained schools present across England.

The pupils pursuing English under KS1 curriculum should be encouraged to avoid any misconception by seeking clarification on the meaning of all unfamiliar words that they come across while studying the KS1 English vocabulary. This should be done especially for the words which may have multiple meanings and can be grammatically altered as different parts of speech.
